PA Consulting Group identifies novel way to avoid pharma product counterfeiting and ensure...

Rob Whewell from PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, will provide insight to a novel method of authenticating pharmaceutical medicines at the point of dispensing, in a paper to be given at SMI's Combatting Pharmaceutical Fraud & Counterfeiti

ng Conference at The Hatton, London UK on 7th of October (3pm).

The WHO (World Health Organisation) estimates 10% of medicines worldwide are counterfeit. Often considered a problem of the developing world (where the proportion can be as high as 40%), recent cases of counterfeit medicines discovered in the US supply chain have shaken consumer confidence, with some post-consumption discoveries leading to law suits against distributors by affected patients.

Rob's paper will:

  • consider recent, salient cases of drug counterfeiting that have reached the market and heightened concern over patient safety

  • explain current measures being taken by manufacturers to address the problem

  • propose a radical new solution to this serious weakness in medicine supply that will ensure caveat emptor need no longer apply in the case of prescription pharmaceuticals, and that patient safety is protected.

It will be of particular interest to all marketing managers and anyone involved in product supply.
