Ubisense wins 'Best British Inside' iAward

17-11-2009

Ubisense, the world leader in Precise Real-Time Location Systems has won the 'Best British Inside' category at the iawards. Launched by the British Government, the iawards recognised some of the most innovative British businesses.

 The iawards in association with QinetiQ were launched by Lord Drayson and James Caan in July and announced last night, at a glittering gala dinner held at the Science Museum.

The awards celebrate the best of British science, technology and innovation.   All entrants had to specify British involvement in their innovation - demonstrating that innovative thinking and development came from a British organisation or team.

Ubisense were selected from a shortlist of three companies nominated for the Best British Inside category.  This focused on critical innovative contributions in terms of a hidden component of breakthrough research / thinking used by any other company in the world with innovative qualities relating to at least one of the following challenges:

  • Addressing the healthcare needs of an ageing society;
  • Increasing international security from tackling global poverty to minimising the threat of terrorism;
  • Preserving finite natural resources in the face of population growth and climate change; and
  • Delivering public services which make best use of new technologies.

Ubisense demonstrated technology that is a truly British innovation and answered three of the required challenges.  Initially created by four British Engineers, Ubisense is now a successful commercial organisation, with R&D and Headquarters in Cambridge, UK.

Chair judge, Allyson Reed said: “The celebration of ‘British inside’ encouraged an impressively diverse range of companies. We felt that Ubisense’s entry was a particularly versatile product - the ability to locate people and assets with unmatched accuracy has potential in a huge number of industries. And it’s great to see university research underpinning the success of this technology. Ubisense can be proud of their achievement.”

Ubisense is the leading British company specialising in Precise Real-Time Location Systems, which accurately track the precise location of assets, people or animals within a specified geospatial area.  The company has recently ranked 8th in the Sunday Times Microsoft Tech track 100 2009 and within the top twenty companies listed in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 for the second successive year.

‘”We are very proud to have won the Best British inside iaward,” said Ubisense CEO Richard Green “we have had an unbelievable year, increasing our market-leadership, doubling our world-wide presence and now winning a hatrick of awards”
