Three PA-designed products feature in Design Icons exhibition

PA Consulting Group produced three of the 20 most important products to be designed in Cambridgeshire over the past 40 years, according to the city’s Design Icons exhibition sponsored by the Design Council.

The three PA-designed items in the exhibition represent our award-winning work across consumer products, branded packaging and medical devices.

PA’s items featured in the exhibition are:

  • Evian Action bottle

The design by PA's Mike Paton and Jonathan Hogwood helped Evian reposition its brand. PA developed the bottle to try and communicate Evian’s values of purity and balance while targeting young consumers. Several elements were developed and brought together into coherent concepts for research in the UK, France and the US, before being refined, prototyped and detailed into the production pack.

“PA’s capacity to push forward and bring this new concept to market has strengthened Evian’s brand leadership,” said Alfons Trabal, Senior Brand Manager, Evian.

The Evian Action bottle was awarded a Silver Starpack and WorldStar by the World Packaging Organisation 2002.

  • Easi-Breathe® – the first breath-actuated inhaler

PA designed and developed Easi-Breathe ®, the world’s first breath-actuated metered-dose inhaler for Baker Norton (now part of Teva). Launched in 1994 and still in production now, the inhaler solves the difficulty patients experience when trying to breathe in, while releasing the drug at the same time. The Easi-Breathe ® automatically discharges a measured dose of the drug at exactly the right time for it to most effectively reach the lungs. The inhaler’s patient-friendly design takes cues from conventional inhalers so users don’t need to be re-educated.

The Easi-Breathe® won the following awards:

Campaign/Design Council, Design Awards 1996: Best use of design in healthcare – Highly Commended; Prince of Wales Award for Innovation1997 ; The Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award 1998 – Winner

  • Kenwood Juice Extractor

Responding to increased consumer interest in fresh juices, the Kenwood juice extractor represented a major new product category when launched at in the 1980s.

Over a six month period, the PA design team established the optimum design route, combining aesthetic appeal and functionality with the extractor’s novel method of separating pith from the juice as developed by PA’s Technology team.
