THE PROBLEM

With voice and web conference facilities becoming ever more popular, Cambridge University was keen to monitor and reduce its expenditure on conference calls.

The University’s voice conferencing facilities had developed organically, on an ad hoc basis, and various services were in use: some charged a subscription whether or not the service was used; others charged at varying rates, making it difficult to track and compare costs.

THE C3 SOLUTION

C3’s Network Conferencing application was added to the University’s existing C3 Messaging /IVR system, extending the life of their original investment and creating an in-house network platform that provides flexible voice conferencing facilities for a single, fixed fee.

“C3's Network Conferencing allows us to provide a much requested service, whilst leveraging our existing Apcentia platform. The comprehensive API suite allows us to integrate the system into our existing user and administration tools, so minimising the learning curve.

“Hosting the service ourselves will allow us to provide a service with no hidden call charges – either for University staff or external participants."

Gordon Ross, Head of Telecoms, Cambridge University

With no subscription or data storage charges and secure localised call recording, Network Conferencing supports a limitless number of conferences, supporting up to 64 active participants per conference.

Independent volume control for each participant ensures high sound quality, and the live conference web control lets the meeting’s chairperson see who is attending, and who is speaking, at any point.

Easily administered and managed through an intuitive web interface that supports multiple levels of access, the platform supports pre-booked, recurrent and on-demand conferences, which can be recorded for later review, if required.

Cost-efficient and secure

Conference calls are recorded and stored locally, eradicating offsite data storage costs, and safe-guarding confidential material from external security breaches.

Since the platform works in conjunction with the University’s existing telephone network, any billed calls appear on each user or department’s monthly bills, and can be easily tracked.

About Network Conferencing

C3’s Network Conferencing platform is available as a standalone product or as an upgrade to an existing C3 Apcentia system. It is fully scalable, allowing you to allocate as many – or as few – conferencing channels as you need.

Voicemail and call routing, automated information services, call recording and multiple billing and payment mechanisms can be included, as required.
