Addenbrooke's suffers major flooding incident

A Cambridge University Hospitals spokesperson said: “Following heavy rain last night, we have declared a major incident [at Addenbrooke's] because flooding is affecting the areas where we sterilise theatre equipment.

“We have postponed planned surgery for today, over the weekend and on Monday. All affected patients will be contacted and new dates for their surgery arranged. We apologise to any patient for any inconvenience caused.

“We continue to provide urgent medical care. However as our services are not running normally, we are now in major incident mode. We are asking patients considering coming to A&E to seek alternative care wherever possible.

“At the present moment we are closed to major trauma cases.

“We have put in place well-practised and robust emergency planning procedures drawn up to deal with these kinds of situations.

“Patients with any concerns can call: 01223 245151.”
