Chain Reaction: Destination Space blasts off in Cambridge

Cambridge Science Centre's spectacular event at the Corn Exchange on Sunday 6th December will see families, schools and local companies building a huge chain of crazy contraptions that launch one another around the room and across the stage.

Young interest in science, technology and engineering really does matter, after all it is the future. I think, people like me, we know it's exciting - we have a science background. But you've really got to engage people when they are young, and really let them enjoy it because that is going to set them up for the future and give them a life-long interest.
- Cllr Paul Saunders, Mayor of Cambridge 2013-14

This year the theme is 'Destination Space' and the finale of the event will be the launch of the chain to a resounding chorus of crashes, bangs, pops and cheers. Prizes  are on offer for the best entries from the public, schools, and company teams.

What's on at the event?
As well as building a section of the Chain, visitors can engage with Cambridge Science Centre exhibits, experiments and demonstrations. At the end of the day, watch the mayhem of the Chain Reaction launch.

Your group can start your engineering marvel at home and bring it along on the day to perfect, or you can get started on the day. The Centre  will have plenty of equipment to build all sorts of crazy devices and gadgets. Either way you will have access to supplies, tools and helpful hints from friendly staff and volunteers.

Hackroscope - Special Free Hands-on Workshop
