CW challenges tech start-ups for Fast and Furious Pitch Off at Venturefest East

Cambridge Wireless experts look behind the hype of The Internet of Things for investment opportunities.

CW (Cambridge Wireless) is looking for tech start-ups to take part in the Venturefest East ‘Fast and Furious Pitch Off’ on 24 May at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk. At the same event, industry experts drawn from the CW community of companies involved in the research, development and application of wireless and mobile technologies, will be running a session looking at one of the most rapidly emerging technologies, entitled: ‘The Internet of Things – behind the hype – opportunities and the challenges of securing investment’.

Companies based in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk or Norfolk have until 31 March to enter the CW competition with an innovative technology product or service in the Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, security or wireless and mobile communications markets.  Five companies will be shortlisted to receive free entry and an exhibition table at Venturefest East, while one will be entered in the Pitch Off against 11 finalists selected by other East of England clusters. Companies may not enter more than one cluster competition.

“The judges are looking for innovation and inspiration, impact, delivery and competition, as well as the team behind the idea and long term viability of the business,” said Bob Driver, CEO of CW. “This is a great opportunity to gain high profile visibility and kudos along with exposure to investors, suppliers and entrepreneurs leading up to and during the event itself.”

The five shortlisted companies will also get a place on the Pitching Training Workshop run by St John’s Innovation Centre (SJIC) and SETsquared, while in addition to the place in the Fast and Furious Pitch final, the winner will also get a two day ticket and exhibition space to CW’s flagship event, 8th Future of Wireless International Conference in London on 21-22 June 2016 as part of London Tech Week.

Behind the IoT Hype

The CW session at Venturefest East will feature leading industry keynote speakers exploring the hype around the Internet of Things. Clennell Collingwood, Senior Consultant and Steve Baker, Business Development Manager at TTP will be dispelling the myths behind the IOT and providing actual examples of successful business models, while Matthew Scherba, Head of Sales & Marketing at Breed Reply will talk about what makes and IoT start up investable, and Paul Egan, Principal Consultant, IoTUK will explain how the role of regulation has created and driven a number of technological advances.

Over 400 delegates are expected at Venturefest East, designed to showcase innovation in the region.  The event is jointly supported and organised by St Johns Innovation Centre (SJIC), The Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (GCGP LEP) and New Anglia LEP. Lead corporate sponsor is The University of East Anglia (UEA), along with other sponsors Taylor Vinters, Barclays, SBRI Healthcare and Adnams.
