Cambridge computer telephony specialist C3 has completed a full upgrade of a secure prison phone system which allows inmates to talk to their family on the outside. The platform, used in some of the UK’s highest profile prisons and secure hospitals, has been enhanced and given a complete technology refresh at Isle of Man Prison.

- The PTS (Prisoner Telephony System) provides a vital link for inmates to keep in touch with relatives and their legal team using access only to pre-approved numbers.
- The latest improvements and increased investment mark a decade-long relationship between C3 and the island’s prison authorities.
C3 has supplied the Gateway platform since 2006 and oversaw the expansion and transfer of the telephony system when a new £42million prison at Jurby was opened in August, 2008.

The only prison on the island, Isle of Man Prison was founded in 1891 in Douglas, the island’s capital.
In 2008 it moved to a new, state-of-the-art site in the parish of Jurby, increasing capacity and facilities available to inmates. The medium security facility has capacity for 144, with all prisoners in single cells.
