Devolution and Europe under the spotlight at Network event

The Chancellor's Budget announcement of a proposed East Anglia Devolution Deal has prompted Cambridge Network to extend its forthcoming event on Thursday March 31st to include a discussion about devolution, ahead of a talk about Europe by Lord Stephen Green.

Decisions about devolution and about Britain's continued involvement in the European Union are both due to be made in the next few months  - debate and consultation about devolution with relevant local stakeholders is to be completed by no later than the end of June and the EU referendum is on June 23rd. That makes this important event timely, giving Network members the opportunity to learn more about and discuss both sets of issues.

All are encouraged to come along for a late afternoon/ evening session on Thursday March 31st that will include:   Devolution from 4pm.   From 4-5.30pm, leaders who have been involved in Devolution negotiations to this point will explain the current deal and the decisions to be made over the next few weeks. Claire Ruskin, Cambridge Network's CEO, comments: "We need to consider this objectively without the party politics getting in the way, as we could be rejecting a deal that in practice would be good for local housing and transport.”   Read the full devolution document here.   Europe from 6pm. This event, featuring Lord Stephen Green, former Minister of State for Trade and Investment and Group Chairman of HSBC Group, is not a hustings but will give us more information and should help progress the debate as we work out the best way forward. It should be of interest to anyone of voting age wishing to find out more about Europe, regardless of political affiliation.   Cambridge Network members are welcome to attend one or both sessions, but you are asked to register your attendance by following the link below, regardless of whether you plan to attend one or both.   This event, which takes place at The Cambridge Union Society (9A Bridge Street, Cambridge, CB2 1UB) is not to be missed if you want to be informed and help to influence outcomes.   Find out more and sign up here. ___________________________________________
