'Sarajevo Roses' to be premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival

Roger M Richards, a director from the USA, in cooperation with Cambridge-based double BAFTA award-winning filmmaker, producer and director Oggi Tomic, has completed the film Sarajevo Roses which will be premiered at this year’s 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF).

Sarajevo Roses is a film essay told through the story of five different people who speak about the influence of war on the lives of people.  The director chose “Sarajevo roses” for the name of his film, after the traces of bombs on the streets of Sarajevo which were later painted in red color.

Roger Richards, photographer and director from Virginia in the United States, witnessed the siege of Sarajevo in the period from 1992 to 1995. After the war he often returned to the country, following the changes that the city underwent after the war.

“I’ve met Sarajevo pretty well in the last 23 years and this film reflects this,” said Richards.

This film is contextually connected with Oggi Tomic's previous film “Finding Family”. When asked if he will continue seeking inspiration in the war Sarajevo, Tomic says:  “I am trying to move away from that story because Sarajevo and Bosnia-Herzegovina have many positive stories that I am looking for to make my next documentary. I am sure that people, just like I do, want to turn towards the positive future and life instead of thinking about the nineties again and again.”

Tomic accepted this film because the making of this film began 22 years ago and he wanted to help Roger finish the project and show the film to the BiH audience.

The crew of the film consists of: Roger M. Richards (producer, director, director of photography), Oggi Tomic (producer, cinematographer), Peggy Meder and Zana Marjanovic (producer), Mitty Griffis Mirrer (scenario), Asim Haracic, Alexander Shesha, Milica Davies (music), Alex Germanotta (scenography), Vedran Smajlovic, Sanda Skrabic, Armin Oprasic, Sanela Tasic (roles).

Other people, with whom Richards is connected in some way, also participate in the film, including those he had the opportunity to meet during the war.

The world premiere of the film “Sarajevo Roses” is scheduled for 14th August at 8:00 pm in the Multiplex Cinema City, Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herz).
