Explore Independent Cambridge: Byard Art

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the definitive guide to ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: the friendly and accessible Byard Art.

Known locally as the Arts Quarter, King’s Parade and the neighbouring streets are home to a cluster of art galleries – one of which is the very friendly and accessible Byard Art.

Easily found in the city’s historic centre, directly opposite King’s College and encompassing 1,200 square feet of exhibition space over two floors; the gallery specialises in contemporary original paintings, sculpture, mixed media artwork, jewellery, ceramics, glass, prints and photography. Each year sees the gallery host between eight and 10 exhibitions from mixed-theme to solo work and attend art fairs in the UK (including the Cambridge Art Fair) as well as around the world – from New York to Hong Kong.

The Byard team is really approachable and more than happy to talk about the works on display. They genuinely enjoy having personal contact with their clients and are always happy to answer any questions, discuss upcoming exhibitions and art fairs and to generally talk all things art-related.

Lots of things make it easy to buy pieces from Byard Art. There’s an overnight approval service for local residents; purchases can be financed with the Arts Council’s interest-free Own Art Scheme and shipping worldwide and within the UK is easily organised.

Gift vouchers are available and the Byard team can also help with creating your wedding list. So why not pop in to the gallery and see for yourself what’s on offer? You won’t be disappointed!
