Cambridge Music Festival injects the city with world class music

Cambridge will punch above its musical weight once again this November, when the Cambridge Music Festival (CMF) fills the air with an extraordinary range of classical and contemporary music heavyweights. The box office is open now.

Festival runs 8-24 November 2016

Highlights of this year’s festival include Steve Reich, Murray Perahia (piano) and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Ian Bostridge sings Schubert’s Winterreise, choral masterpieces with Cambridge College choirs and Britten Sinfonia. The Festival pushes more musical boundaries than ever and, in Steve Reich, will be opened by a musician who many think of as simply the most influential composer of the last 50 years.

Alongside the world’s music greats are the stars of the future. Two concerts of solo Bach feature Tamsin Waley-Cohen (violin) and Philip Higham (cello). Waley-Cohen is a performer of ‘fearless intensity’ The Guardian) who was named by the Evening Standard as one of the ‘1,000 most influential Londoners’, and is one of the prestigious European Concert Hall Organisation’s ‘rising stars’ of 2016/17; she is also Artistic Director of the innovative ‘Sunday Series’ of concerts at London’s Tricycle theatre.

Festival Director, Justin Lee says ‘…whether it’s solo Bach or Beethoven piano concertos, Steve Reich, electronica or new music, I hope to provide a concert for every musical taste in Cambridge this November.’

Cambridge Music Festival runs from 8-24 November 2016. The Box Office opens on Monday 12 September.
