Bacchanalia Mill Road is the sister shop of the original Victoria Road shop and was established in 1999 after taking over the old CAMRA Jug & Firkin store. Considered the company’s ‘rough diamond’, it stocks a very fine selection of beer, superb wines and a hugely eclectic spirit range.

A particular treat for ale lovers is the cask conditioned local draught beer, poured straight from the tap. You can either bring in your own container, or Bacchanalia can supply two pint hoppers or four pint reusable jugs – just take away your container of lovely frothy beer, have a great night, then bring it back when you fancy a refill. If you’re having a party or gathering, (or are just very thirsty), they also sell real ale in larger sizes.

Although relatively small inside, the shop has one of the best beer selections in the country.  The secret to this selection is that Bacchanalia are beer wholesalers and importers as well as retailers. Handcrafted brews from De Molen and Kees of Holland, Rogue and Caldera from the USA are imported by Bacchanalia to rub shoulders with the best beers from the UK, Belgium and Germany. One of the shop's specialist suppliers, Olaf, drives regularly to his native Germany in search of beers from the smaller Bavarian breweries including the official brewers for Oktoberfest. For fans of local brews, the shelves hold delights from breweries such as BlackBar, Old Chimneys, Moonshine and Humpty Dumpty.

As with Bacchanalia Victoria Road, the Mill Road shop also holds regular events and tastings sessions, so just join their mailing list online to find out what’s coming up and when, or pop in and speak to Ed (pictured) – the main man at Mill Road.
