Cambridge Literary Festival (formerly Wordfest) has a firm place on the Cambridge cultural calendar. Its Winter 2016 event promises an eclectic selection of top writers for thought-provoking and enlightening talks on dozens of different topics.

Festival Director Cathy Moore says: "Making their way to Cambridge on the last weekend in November will be top class novelists, poets, journalists, politicians, academics and broadcasters to share their wit and wisdom and to add their own flavour and spice to this plum pudding of a festival.

"Prize-winning Zadie Smith, Booker shortlisted Deborah Levy, Festival Patron Ali Smith and the yet to be announced 2016 Goldsmiths Prize Winner, serve the very best of 2016’s fiction.

"Politics is high on the agenda and from the plethora of political memoirs hitting the bookshelves, we’ve gathered the cream of the crop. Not only do we have Ken Clarke in the blue seat and Alan Johnson in the red seat, we also have Bennite MP Chris Mullin whose timely memoir discusses the enduring problems that beset the Labour Party’s left and casts a light on the 'unseen hand' of the British establishment.

"Also on this year’s festival menu are exciting and versatile poet Lemn Sissay, award-winning campaigner Laura Bates and the razor wit of Blackadder star, Tony Robinson.

"Giving human voice to US gun violence statistics, Guardian journalist Gary Younge brings moving accounts from affected families in the USA to the Cambridge Union Chamber. In The Round Church, Ruth Padel promises a candlelit night of poetry and carols to ease us into advent."

Cambridge is a great place for a literary festival, with endless interesting and beautiful venues. You might find yourself in the splendour of the Cambridge Union Chamber or the hidden gem which is the Winstanley Lecture Theatre or the beautifully refurbished Divinity School.

But although the festival has grown so successfully, Cambridge Literary Festival has managed to retain its initial intimacy and vivacity and continues to delight its festival-goers by bringing the best in new and established writers to the historic and beautiful City. In addition to staging two festivals each year – April and November - it also hosts a series of individual events throughout the year.
