A team of 50 staff, family and friends will be sporting electric blue and orange running tops and taking to the streets to raise money for the company’s ‘charity of the year’ – chosen by the staff – Wintercomfort. Their fundraising efforts will be matched pound for pound by Cambridge Consultants – giving a double boost to the charity.

Cambridge-based Wintercomfort provides day centre support for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home – offering them vital welfare services and opportunities for learning and training, as well as free breakfasts and leisure activities.

“As our company continues to grow, so does our sense of community – and our preparation for this year’s Cambridge Half Marathon is testament to this,” said Siobhain Kelly, events administrator at Cambridge Consultants. “We’ve been training together during lunchtimes and at weekends, and the entire company has really pulled together in the run-up to the big event.”

The sixth Cambridge Half Marathon is being held on Sunday 5 March, starting at 9.30am, and is set to be the biggest and best yet – with 9,000 runners registered to take part. This year’s event sees the same one-lap course as last year, beginning on Victoria Avenue, with Midsummer Common being the main event hub. The course will lead the runners through the centre of Cambridge, passing the Round Church, King’s College and the Fitzwilliam Museum before going along The Backs and then heading out of the city along Trumpington Road, through Grantchester, and back into the city along Barton Road.

“It’s an honour to be involved with such a fantastic community event that continues to grow and shows no sign of slowing down,” said Alan Richardson, CEO of Cambridge Consultants. “We also hope to raise lots of money for Wintercomfort, whose committed staff provide such essential welfare services for those in need.”

Last year Cambridge Consultants staff raised £35,000 for the local Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. The money was the result of activities including a monthly cake trolley and sales of bacon butties, as well as the half marathon.
