Opened in April 2015, The Queen Edith is the third pub in Cambridge owned by highly-regarded local company Milton Brewery, with The Devonshire Arms off Mill Road and The Haymakers in Chesterton being the other two.

What makes The Queen Edith different is the fact that it was the city’s first new build pub for more than 30 years. It’s also in a part of Cambridge where there isn’t another pub for nearly a mile in any direction, making it a great community asset in that area.

Being a new-build has its advantages. The pub is very accessible for disabled people, complying with all the most up-to-date regulations. The inside is spacious with two areas – the bar with plenty of room for separate tables and chairs and the lounge with its cosy high-backed booths. The bar also features a very welcoming wood burning fire and there’s under-floor heating which can be zoned to make sure everyone feels comfortable.

Back to the lounge and subtly hidden under a tapestry is a 50 inch TV – not switched on constantly but very handy for those big sporting occasions.

Now, to the important stuff – the beer and the food. There are always five ales on from Milton Brewery itself (including the multi award-winning Pegasus) and three guest ales, selected from about 150 different small breweries around the UK. In one year, that amounts to about 2,000 guest beers! The food is all cooked on-site and is classic pub-style fare, ranging from sharing platters and burgers through to pies and Sunday roasts.

On to logistics and very conveniently, all three of the Milton Brewery pubs are on the Citi-2 bus route, which terminates at Addenbrooke's. With The Queen Edith being the closest, it’s a perfect place to take a break from the hospital site.
