It is what many people would think of as a dream opportunity – the chance to do conservation work in an exotic location while studying for a qualification.

Biology graduate Eleanor Devenish will shortly embark on a Conservation Internship, during which she will study for a Certificate in Professional Marketing, and spend three months in Malaysia doing conservation work. Eleanor will work on communications projects with a focus on saving endangered species and their habitats.

The internship is believed to be among the first of its kind, and is sponsored by Cambridge Marketing College, organised through Biodiversity Business, a social enterprise dedicated to creating shared value for biodiversity and business, and a member of Cambridge Conservation Forum.

Cambridge is the hub of the largest cluster of conservation organisations in the world, and Eleanor will be based at the Conservation Campus in the pioneering David Attenborough Building.

While in Malaysia, Eleanor will work with Fuze Ecoteer, a team of marine conservationists and rainforest experts, working on projects ranging from protecting the critically endangered Malayan Tiger to patrolling nesting sea turtles. Her field work will involve creating a marketing plan for a local conservation project. She’ll be keeping a blog of her adventures at http://sustainablemarketing.academy.

“I’m thrilled to have been chosen for this unique internship”, says Eleanor. “I have worked in conservation all of my career and this really gives me the chance to make a difference.”

Eleanor is no stranger to travel, having previously held internships in Birmingham and The Azores!
