Paul Beastall appointed to UK5G Advisory Board

Paul Beastall, Director of Technology Strategy at Cambridge Consultants, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of UK5G.

Endorsed and funded by the UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), UK5G brings together organisations across the 5G ecosystem, including a world-class research base, technology providers, investment, regulators and vertical industry partners yet to appreciate the benefits of next generation connectivity. Paul Beastall’s appointment is further validation of the technical expertise and market knowledge that have enabled Cambridge Consultants to deliver world-changing innovation over several decades in the telecommunications industry.

The UK5G Advisory Board will provide advice, guidance and support for the aims of UK5G, as well as providing impartial, industry-focused advice to DCMS on its trials programme and future plans for 5G development. The Board is a balance of members from both the supply side (providers of technology, infrastructure, operators, services) and the demand side (customers and potential customers of 5G), drawn from the 5G ecosystem.

Paul brings a wealth of expertise that spans the entire telecommunications industry. This has been gained during the many ground-breaking projects that Cambridge Consultants has completed for clients across the world, including for semiconductor companies, service providers, technology vendors and regulators. Furthermore, Cambridge Consultants’ multidisciplinary experience will provide invaluable insight into emerging 5G use cases, including in retail, healthcare, agriculture and utilities.

UK5G is a consortium partnership between Cambridge Wireless, Knowledge Transfer Network and TM Forum. Bob Driver, CEO of Cambridge Wireless, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the UK to build and enhance its position in the implementation of the next generation of mobile communication - and the end-goal is to help these technologies rapidly transform our societies and economic performance. We encourage all interested parties to become involved in the building of this community.”

Paul Beastall commented: “I am delighted to be appointed as a member of the UK5G Advisory Board. UK5G has a key role to play in ensuring the UK optimises its use of 5G services to deliver national benefit. As well as delivering better broadband for consumers, 5G will also deliver new services that will help make autonomous cars and drones a commercial reality. The open engagement from DCMS to establish an independent board is a hugely positive move and I look forward to supporting 5GUK in establishing the UK as a leader in the development and adoption of 5G.”
