PBD Biotech wins Innovation Award for Mycobacterial detection technology

Having won a competition to attend the event as one of only 4 international companies through the HARVEST program operated by the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA), PBD’s technology was awarded the top Innovation prize for the entire show. The company has developed an innovative technology for diagnosing tuberculosis infections in animals that directly and sensitively detects live bacteria. Given the limitations of existing tests for tuberculosis in animals, this technology could have a transformational effect on the industry.  

Collecting the award on behalf of the Company was Mr. Robert Lyons, the Director of the company’s North American operations who said “we are delighted to accept this award given the high quality of other innovations being presented at the event and look forward to working further with SREDA to introduce our technology into the Canadian market. ” Dr Berwyn Clarke, CEO of the Company, added “ this is excellent recognition of the potential of our technology to address the problem of mycobacterial infection in agriculture and wildlife. As a result of this event we will be looking to introduce our tests for both Johne’s disease and Bovine TB into this market at the earliest opportunity”.     

PBD Biotech has developed a novel and highly accurate method for rapidly detecting the presence of Mycobacteria in blood, milk and other tissues that may have transformational benefits for both food quality assurance and the control of  tuberculosis in animals. This is of particular interest in Canada where there has been a recent outbreak of Bovine TB resulting in culling and quarantining of thousands of animals with significant implications on animal movement and associated economic loss.
