Darktrace, the world leader in AI technology for cyber defense, has today announced that Régie des Transports Métropolitains (RTM), the transportation authority for the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, has deployed the Enterprise Immune System to defend its corporate networks and the transportation system against stealthy and sophisticated cyber-threats.

RTM operates the region’s bus services, two metro lines, the waterbus, the ferry boat, three tram lines, as well as the Saint-Charles bus station in Marseille. As such, any cyber-threat to RTM’s networks could cause major disruption to the area’s public transportation system. The organization is also responsible for safeguarding the personal data of over 100,000 customers. Confronted with today’s dynamic and rapidly evolving threat landscape and realizing the shortcomings of traditional defenses, RTM’s security team embraced Darktrace’s disruptive AI technology for cyber defense to protect its vast network.

“The reality is that cyber-attackers often strike indiscriminately, making every organization a potential target – nobody is immune,” said Gérard Harion, CISO, RTM. “The Enterprise Immune System is unique in allowing us to really understand what is happening inside our network. Regardless of whether a criminal group attempts to infiltrate our network, or a well-meaning employee inadvertently exposes the company to risk, Darktrace’s AI technology will immediately alert us to the emerging threat, allowing us to remediate the issue immediately.”

Darktrace’s Enterprise Immune System mimics the self-learning intelligence of the human immune system to understand what constitutes the normal ‘pattern of life’ of every user and device on the network and uses that constantly evolving baseline to spot threatening anomalies. The AI algorithms can generate an autonomous response and halt in-progress attacks in their tracks, augmenting security teams by buying them precious time to catch up.

“With traditional approaches to cyber defense, security teams inevitably waste a lot of precious time studying incidents and alerts, always chasing after yesterday’s attack,” said Emmanuel Meriot, Country Manager, France and Spain, Darktrace. “But tomorrow’s attack is always going to be stealthier and more advanced. Darktrace’s AI technology marks a paradigm shift in how we approach the challenge of cyber security. The Enterprise Immune System is the world’s first AI technology capable of not only detecting but also autonomously responding to cyber-threats, enabling security pros to focus on higher-value, strategic work. We are delighted that RTM has joined the increasing number of organizations across France who are leading the way in adopting this fundamental innovation to defend their organizations against pernicious threats from within.”
