D&A Creative rebrands homeless charity Cambridge Cyrenians

D&A Creative was asked by Cambridge Cyrenians to develop a new logo and identity for the charity and review how this could work on a refreshed website and other materials.

Cambridge Cyrenians is the oldest homeless charity in Cambridge. Set up in 1970, they offer a range of services to meet the needs of local homeless people, such as specialist accommodation for ex-offenders and women. Cyrenians also provides additional support services for those with mental health issues, preventative outreach services and an allotment project that offers horticultural therapy.

D&A Creative was asked by Cambridge Cyrenians to develop a new logo and identity for the charity and review how this could work on a refreshed website and other materials. The two key audiences for marketing materials are potential volunteers, and current / potential funders and they wanted to portray a successful, professional and inspiring organisation – one that volunteers and funders will be proud to associate themselves with.

Starting with the design of the logo, the team created a range of concepts introducing brighter and fresher colour palettes and also explored the use of an icon within the designs. This icon would provide a fresh look at the work of Cambridge Cyrenians. The client asked D&A Creative to steer away from the somewhat over done images of roofs, houses, doors etc. A clear favourite was quickly chosen from the designs, with a simple use of two C’s which created a simple bed outline when merged together. The clean and fresh colour palette gave a modern feel, coupled with a soft approachable font.

The design of the website continued the development of the overall brand, with the double C icon of the logo used as a graphical element throughout the site. A web version of the font helped to pull out titles of the copy and give the pages a more individual look and feel. Coupled with the introduction of cut out images and continued use of the new colour palette, the result was a very clean, modern and professional update of the website.

D&A has continued to work with the team at Cambridge Cyrenians on further materials including e-signatures, stationery and recently the design of their annual report, and the new brand has been well received.

“Having given you little guidance and little time, you came up with a number of logo’s and ideas for rebranding. The new design was fresh and colourful. This you took further with a complete redesign of our new website, which was a huge step up from the previous design, and which we felt fitted well with the organisation. The further development of letterhead, email template and annual review layout were all warmly welcomed by staff and trustees and we feel that, despite the lack of guidance coming from ourselves, you have done extremely well with the new design, which we are extremely happy with.”
