Addenbrooke's Hospital makes electric bikes available for staff meetings


Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University Hospital NHS Trust) has launched its Addenbrooke’s electric bikes scheme for meetings. It will be makig available Cambridge Electric Transport e-bikes available for staff for meetings, enabling the trust to save money and become more sustainable.

Addenbrooke's has made Cambridge Electric Transport electric bicycles available for staff travelling to local meetings where ordinarily they may have driven.

Energy and sustainability manager, Richard Hales, who led the project said: ‘Currently,  staff cover around 8,000 miles a year on trips either to or from Campus of less than 10 miles - costing the Trust approximately £4,000."

Richard added: "I hope new bicycles will be an appealing alternative for anyone planning a short car journey. Benefits include:

  • Improved well-being;
  • Reduced travel time;
  • Reduce car parking charges;
  • Reduced air pollution & carbon emissions."

Over the last 9 months, Cambridge Electric Transport has been working closely with Addenbrooke's to provide bike (electric and non-electric) assistance to employees of the trust byas has a cycle hub on site.  

The Campus Cycle Hub serves the Cambridge Biomedical Campus cycling community with a full range of services:

  • Bike repairs
  • Bike servicing

It is open every weekday from 8am to 5pm.

The Campus Cycle Hub is managed by Cambridge Electric Transport Ltd in partnership with The Bike Man and the following items are for sale:

  • Cycle accessories
  • Used bikes
  • Electric bikes

Electric bikes and standard bikes are also available to rent.
