Jamie Cook and Fletcher Daniels are both 11, and get £15 of pocket money a month, sometimes a little more if they do additional chores.
The thoughtful two spent their December allowance on ingredients to bake flapjacks, chocolate brownies, gingerbread and Victoria sponge, plus other cakes and cookies.
Through the power of their village’s Facebook group and a few posters, Jamie and Fletcher were able to organise a sale at the Prince’s Memorial, selling slices for between 40p and £1 each.
Jamie goes to Linton Village College and Fletcher to Meadow School. Both have been involved in fundraising at their schools and as part of community organisations, but this was the first time they had done anything independently.
In a letter to EACH, the boys wrote: “We were really feeling for those children that are not as fortunate us, so we have done a bake sale to help you help those children this Christmas. We raised £79.11 which we want to donate to the hospice. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”
Laura, Jamie’s mum, and Tina, Fletcher’s mum, said: “We’re immensely proud of them! The whole event was planned, designed and organised by the boys completely independently, and they took great pride in being absolutely independent about it, even to the point of doing their own shopping, advertising, setting up, baking, pricing and running of the stall.”
