Event focuses on fascinating future of flexible electronics

Don't miss the opportunity to hear the fascinating story behind flexible electronics technology - and the potential it holds for the future - at an open evening lecture this Thursday (31 January).

Cambridge Network's first open event of 2019,   FlexEnable and flexible electronics will focus on plastic electronics and the part that Cambridge-based FlexEnable is playing in pioneering this rapidly changing technology.

Taking place from 18.00 - 20.30 at The Hauser Forum (The Entrepreneurship Centre, 3 Charles Babbage Road, CB3 0GT) it features Mike Banach, Technical Director of FlexEnable, who will talk about the new developments and applications of Flexenable’s technology.

FlexEnable has pioneered the world’s first flexible electronics technology platform that allows electronics made of organic materials to be manufactured on flexible plastic film, the thickness of a sheet of paper. Compatible with existing manufacturing lines, it is the key to truly flexible and cost effective electronics over large and small surfaces. The core applications of this technology are glass-free, flexible displays and sensors that enable game-changing products across a variety of industries including consumer electronics, automotive, digital signage, wearables, medical and security.

The applications of flexible electronics are far reaching…

  • Imagine a smartphone with a wraparound display that opens out into a tablet - doubling the size of the device and the amount of information being displayed. In the future, fully flexible, foldable and even stretchable displays will be made possible thanks to flexible OLED technology
  • Thinner, lighter and shatterproof displays on wearable devices that can conform to our bodies and our clothes
  • Displays on smart devices (from white goods to voice-enabled devices) that can be shaped, curved and wrapped around surfaces
  • Lightweight, flexible digital signage
  • Flexible fingerprint sensors with applications in mobile phones, wearables, automotive, border control, smartcards and Point of Sale (PoS) to manage retail systems.
