Lab Coordinator

The Role

Your role will be varied and enjoyable; we expect it and you to grow to cover the following areas: 

Assets and consumable management 

  • Creation and ongoing management of a lab stores area including ordering consumables, maximising the utilisation of assets and determining what new equipment is required 
  • Equipment calibration and PAT testing 
  • Chemical ordering, storage and disposal 


Information

  • Ensure all electronic and paper based lab information is kept up to date 
  • Provide advice to lab users on how to use the lab, where to find things and who to talk to about specific needs. 
  • Act as the point of contact to collect, prioritise and act on suggestions for improving the labs  
  • Develop a picture of TTP's lab needs, and report through Management meetings on whether/how we're meeting these 


Space management & housekeeping 

  • Provide oversight of how the lab space is used including project benches and storage areas 
  • Acts as the liaison between lab users and the wider business to support lab architecture and infrastructure 
  • Help project managers use space efficiently including assisting in moving equipment into storage as required 
  • Provide arbitration of constrained space when needed  
  • Scheduling periodic lab clean-ups as required including arranging skips or special waste disposal  
  • Organise appropriate waste streams (eg "bigger" bins for cardboard and WEEE) and how they are emptied regularly 


Installing good practice 

  • Provide leadership to other lab users to ensure the work space remains productive and professional 
  • Identify dormant benches, nudge clean-up, facilitate storage (and follow up) 


Safety and compliance 

  • Providing oversight through your in-lab presence 
  • Working with lab users and other stakeholders such as facilities, HR & safety offices to understand and facilitate changes where needed  
  • Schedule group leader lab walk arounds and audits. Assist following up actions. 

Skills and Experience

We think the following skills will be beneficial:  

  • Experience with electronic data entry systems (e.g. spreadsheets, databases) 
  • Technical understanding (temperature/pressure recording) 
  • Experience in a hands on / operational role similar to the above 
  • Basic mathematical competency
