Laboratory Technician

ICE - Industry, Consumer and Energy- is the home to our applied chemistry, consumer beverage, consumer health and liquid based consumer products product development. You will be working within a multidisciplinary team and will be required to apply valuable laboratory expertise and practical assistance to various projects. If you have hands on experience working in a laboratory environment and a desire to work on a wide mix of different types of projects, then this could be for you.

Role Description

Cambridge Consultants undertakes over 300 cutting edge technology, design and consulting projects every year. The Industrial Consumer and Energy (ICE) Division focusses on four markets:

- Industrial - sensors, robotics and logistics systems for manufacturing and retail clients

- Defence - secure end-to-end systems for government clients covering sensing, communications, tracking & location, and data analysis

- Energy - sensing & communications systems for downhole and subsea oil & gas applications and smart metering systems

- Consumer - smart dispensing systems and connected sensor systems for personal care, food & beverage and sports & fitness brands

Our work ranges from undertaking complete product development from concept to manufacture, to providing consulting services for our clients on their technology, innovation and R&D processes.

As a laboratory technician you will be involved in various tasks from evaluation and verification testing of systems and devices or work involving carrying out some basic wet chemistry in our labs.

Specific Responsibilities

As a laboratory technician you will be involved in the following aspects:

  • Verification testing and evaluation of various devices or systems under development
  • Follow standard operating procedures and comply with health in safety rules in place in each working area
  • Prepare stock and work solutions as required by project teams
  • Accurately record and report results clearly to fellow team members
  • Monitoring stock of general supplies
  • General laboratory housekeeping and maintenance
  • Daily and weekly checks of equipment
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager conducting essential safety training for the engineers and scientists
  • Advise engineers on laboratory safety practices

Minimum Requirements

ESSENTIAL -

  • Previous experience of a working laboratory or test house is essential
  • Proactive and self-motivated, capable of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to carry out hands-on lab procedures in a methodical, careful and safe way
  • Flexible and organised as often will required to work on multiple projects at the same time (ability to multitask)
  • Able to adapt to changing demands and requirements
  • Excellent team work skills
  • Basic competence with standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Good verbal and communications skills, capable of conducting essential safety training for the engineers and scientists and to provide guidance on the use of the equipment in the labs

DESIRABLE -

  • Ideal you will hold HNC, BTEC, A levels or GCSE qualifications within a relevant field – Science, particularly chemistry – however higher qualifications will also be considered
