Research Assistant/Research Associate in Planetary Volatile Delivery (Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Astronomy, funded by the Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe. The post-holder will work collaboratively between the groups of Dr. Amy Bonsor, Institute of Astronomy, Dr Paul Rimmer, Battcock Institute, Cavendish Laboratory and Dr. Auriol Rae, Department of Earth Sciences.

For the present position, interest and expertise in delivery of cometary material to early Earth, either from an astronomical perspective (dynamical expertise), from a planetary science perspective (impact processes) or from a chemistry perspective (chemical kinetics) and ideally an interest in the interdisciplinary connections between these domains. In addition to leadership of core projects in this area, applicants are encouraged to develop independent research programs, in particular those that contribute to the broader aims of the Leverhulme Centre.

The preferred candidate will have a PhD (or be near to completion) in Astronomy, Planetary Science or related discipline, or have satisfied the requirements for PhD, by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a competitive research program in a collegial environment and have strong communication and computing skills.

Appointment at Research Associate level (grade 7) requires proof of PhD award and the salary range is from £34,308 to £42,155. For those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD, the appointment will initially be made as Research Assistant (grade 5) with a salary range of £27,929 to £32,348 but later amended to Research Associate on proof of award.
