Cambridge Information and Intellectual Property Meeting (CIIPM) update

The next CIIPM training day takes place on March 14th at Homerton College Conference Centre. There are two courses: IP and Commercialisation (am) and Freedom to Operate (FTO) Search & Analysis (pm). Book this week to take advantage of the early bird booking rate which ends on Friday February 23rd.!

The first gives an introduction to creating an IP policy, IP and contracts and using NDAs.  The FTO course looks at search, retrieval and analysis of patents.  Practical sessions take place in both.

On March 14th CIIPM is hosting its second training day at Homerton College Conference Centre.

Two half-day training courses are available which can be booked separately or together.   There is a discount for booking for the whole day, but either way you get lunch!   The lunch break offers the opportunity to discuss IP matters with like-minded colleagues, continue with the practical sessions, and talk to the presenters and sponsors.  The training day is supported by the UK IPO who will be able to field any questions you have on using UK IPO services including patent, design and trademark filing.   Minesoft will be providing access to Patbase and Patbase Express for attendees on the day and will be there to answer your search questions.

In the morning we are providing the IP and Commercialisation course which first ran successfully in October 2017.  Here weprovide an introduction on how to develop, commercialise and manage IP in house.   We will review how to go about working with others from the IP perspective; including using NDAs, building an IP strategy, preparing an IP policy,  IP matters relating to employees, contracts and confidentiality agreements.    We provide a framework for you to use to establish a robust practice in house.

Attendee numbers are limited to a maximum of 15 so there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and consider specific topics in more detail.

The afternoon half-day course is  Freedom to Operate Search & Analysis.  This training covers aspects of search, retrieval and analysis of patent documents to ensure freedom to operate on developed technology.  Attendees will gain an understanding of how to construct and perform business focussed patent searches and how to analyse the results for reporting.

The training day runs from 10am to 5pm.  Registration opens at 9:30am.

Early booking price is £150 + VAT per half day, this includes lunch.

Student discounts are available.  Contact info@ciipm.co.uk for the student discount code.

 CIIPM Summer Meeting

The 3rd CIIPM Summer Meeting will take place this year on 11th July 2018 at Homerton College Conference Centre.  Our theme this year is ‘Innovation, Valuation and Licensing’  we will be announcing the full programme at the end of February.

The Summer meeting offers the opportunity to participate in an afternoon of talks on all aspects of creating and managing IP, using information for decision making all in the interests of technology commercialisation.    The table top exhibition is also an important part of the afternoon, offering opportunities to meet leading IP and information practitioners and service providers.

There are still some exhibitor spaces left, please contact us at info@ciipm.co.uk to find out more.  This year we will also provide space for some Cambridge University IP post graduate research students to show case their work with a poster session during the breaks.

This knowledge-sharing meeting offers an opportunity to learn through case study examples and input from experts who are rarely together in one place.  The summer meeting should be of interest to technology start up CEOs, those involved with R&D management, IP managers, investors, university technology transfer specialists, IP analysts, patent agents, technology scouts, and all those with an interest in technology commercialisation in its broadest sense.

The 1st Cambridge Information and IP Meeting focused on the early stages of technology commercialisation https://www.ciipm.co.uk/1st-ciipm-annual-meeting-2016, last year in the 2nd meeting we built on this theme looking at contracts and IP, IP management to budget, and on the information side the use of patents for competitive intelligence, and the flip side of this – keeping information to yourself as a trade secret. https://www.ciipm.co.uk/2nd-ciipm-annual-meeting-2017

 About us

The Cambridge Information and Intellectual Property Meeting  (CIIPM) was founded in 2015 by Jane List, Extract Information and Stuart Newbold, Patent Search and Information Management.  The first meeting took place in July 2016.  The CIIPM annual meeting provides an opportunity for knowledge sharing for those engaged with the commercialisation of technologies using intellectual property who need information to make legal and commercial decisions.  Attendees have the opportunity to meet, converse, and learn from each other in a neutral environment.   In 2017 we also began hosting a series of half-day training courses in IP Matters, IP Commercialisation and Patent Searching for Legal and Commercial Insights.  All events take place at Homerton College Conference Centre in central Cambridge, and this year take place on 14th  March and 18th October .  CIIPM can also provide in-house training courses.
