Domino Printing helps engineers of the future

A Cambridge company has recently hosted visits by two groups of engineering students so they could gain a broader understanding of manufacturing technology, engineering and business management.

Students visit Domino Printing

Firstly, Domino Printing welcomed 20 third year engineering students from the University of Cambridge to its Bar Hill headquarters where they spent time in the R&D and manufacturing facilities.

All are working towards the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (MET) degree which includes the practical application of engineering knowledge.

This was followed by a second industrial visit from 33 ISMM-MPhil postgraduates from the University of Cambridge who were shown Domino’s ‘best-in -class’ manufacturing processes to help them develop critical observation skills and practical applications of some of the components of their course.

Feedback after the visits was very positive, with the students’ supervisors highlighting the benefits of seeing Domino’s systems, practices, business model and culture as a company. They were also impressed by the ‘fantastic agenda of activities and tours around different areas of the business’.

Alicja Cunningham, HR Business Partner at Domino, who organised the visits said: “As a company we are committed to sharing our expertise and experience with the next generation of engineers so they have the opportunity to see how their studies can be applied in the workplace. It’s an important part of our CSR Programme which includes encouraging those still at school to consider engineering as a career.”

Earlier in the year, to mark National Manufacturing Day, Domino attended the careers fair at Hills Road Sixth Form College where employees shared their experiences with students.

In January the company will be participating in the STEM Employers’ Fair at Long Road Sixth Form College, as well as hosting a visit by A-Level Business students from Oakes College at Bar Hill.
