Domino Printing launches award-winning Apprenticeship Scheme for 2018

Domino Printing Sciences, a world-leading designer, developer and manufacturer of coding and marking devices, printers, inks, consumables and spares, for printing onto products, has just announced its 2018 Apprenticeship Scheme, offering training opportunities for five people to start in September.

Based at its Bar Hill headquarters, the company is looking for its third annual intake to benefit from the structured programme which combines workplace experience with gaining a qualification.

The five placements comprise two Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeships, two Engineering Technician Apprenticeships and one Facilities Management Apprenticeship.

The apprentices’ time will be split between working alongside skilled professionals who will provide coaching and guidance and developing their academic and vocational skills, in conjunction with one of three local establishments: Cambridge Regional College, Anglia Ruskin and Babcock International.

Accolades

Since launching its Apprenticeship Programme in 2016, Domino has won several accolades for the scheme – and two of its Apprentices have been given their own prestigious awards.

The company has been recognised for its Apprenticeship Scheme by being named one of the Employers of the Year by Cambridge Regional College. It was also Highly Commended for the Large Employer of the Year Award in the EEF Apprenticeship National Awards.

In March 2018 Josh Morrow was named Business Apprentice of the Year by Cambridge Regional College and also Overall CRC Apprentice of the Year.  Josh joined Domino as an apprentice in September 2016, working initially in the Estates Department before moving to his current role in Global Marketing.

Practical experience

He says: “I decided to apply for an apprenticeship as I particularly liked the idea of achieving a qualification whilst gaining practical experience. I have completed Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration and have now decided to study for Digital Marketing Level 3 and Level 4 courses which are accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute For IT.

“The initial interview day at Domino gave me lots of useful information about the company and its products. Domino is a great place to work, it’s a friendly and supportive environment and people are keen to help you. I’d recommend it 100%.”

Rebecca Luck won the Business Apprentice First Year Award at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards in recognition of her outstanding contribution.

Rebecca said: “This is a massive honour – I can’t believe I’ve won. It’s such a wonderful way to crown what has been a fantastic experience for the first year of Domino’s apprenticeship. I’ve developed so much and winning this award tops it all off. I know that many other young people might be wondering if they should do an apprenticeship – all I can say is take the plunge and you won’t regret it!”

Enthusiastic

Hilary Wright, Group HR Director at Domino said: “We are delighted for our Apprentice winners. They are excellent examples of individuals who have embraced our Apprenticeship Scheme. Together with our enthusiastic apprentices and the team within Domino who plan, implement and support the scheme, we have a programme we are really proud of.

“We are now excited to launch our 2018 Apprenticeship Scheme which has gone from strength to strength. We are incredibly proud of our current apprentices and what they have achieved, as well as their contributions to their teams and the overall business.”
