An “immeasurable” difference: Birketts raises more than £35,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices

Leading law firm Birketts has raised more than their £35,100 target for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices – funding a vital Clinical Nurse Specialist for 12 months, and providing young people and their families with the care and support they need under the hardest of circumstances.

EACH currently has 11 of these vital nurses working across the region, working closely with families to provide support for their children and to develop individual symptom management plans.

EACH supports children, young people, and their families with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. Their hospices in Cambridge, Suffolk and Norfolk are centres of care and support across the region. Their wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling, symptom management nursing and short breaks for families who provide round-the-clock care are invaluable for those they support.

The latest blitz of fundraising comes from Birketts’ EACH-stravaganza, with offices getting into the festive spirit with Christmas Jumper days, raffles, mince pies and mulled wine in the name of charity. In just 24 hours, Birketts raised more than £1,500, hitting the target with 29 days to spare.

Partner and Head of CSR, Grace Kerr, said: “More than 1,000 people have made donations online, and hundreds more in buckets and boxes at our events throughout the year. Despite lockdowns, despite coronavirus, our colleagues have come together to raise these funds, and we will keep doing so right up to 31 December to make as big a difference as possible to EACH.

“The commitment to CSR, the involvement in fundraising activities and the kind generosity of our colleagues has made this possible, and will make a tangible difference in the lives of the young people the hospices support.

“We often talk about ‘practicing what we preach’ as a firm, and to see this year of fundraising efforts culminate like this really is proof we are living that mantra. I’d like to thank everyone at Birketts, their families and friends for their charity this year.”

EACH CEO Phil Gormley added: “Birketts has been a fantastic corporate partner – it has been clear from the start that Grace, Jonathan and the firm understand the importance of our work and have taken the cause to heart. The salary for a Clinical Nurse Specialist makes a huge difference after another year of fundraising affected by the pandemic, and the impact this will have on the families we support will be immeasurable. Thank you to everyone at Birketts who took the time to support us this year.”

Birketts CEO Jonathan Agar said: “I am delighted to see Birketts pass this milestone – I had no doubt of the charitable spirit of my colleagues, but to see that translated into hands-on care for the children EACH support is incredible. Over the last 12 months, we’ve learned the difference this money will make and the support it enables. It’s a privilege to play a part in supporting EACH’s families, and I thank them sincerely for the year of partnership we have enjoyed in 2021.”
