Regional civil engineering projects honoured

Civil engineering projects across the region have been honoured in the annual Institution of Civil Engineers East of England Merit Awards. The Awards recognise the very best in the civil engineering profession.

Categories include:
•    Physical Achievement
•    Sustainability
•    Technical Excellence & Innovation
•    Team Achievement.

Three grades of awards can be made: Merit, Highly Commended and Exceptional Merit. Only two projects attained Exceptional Merit - Abberton Reservoir, Essex for Sustainability and Building 57 at the Julian Study Centre, UEA Norwich for Technical Excellence & Innovation.

Some projects were entered in more than one category resulting in a total of 30 entries. Various parts of the new DP World London Gateway port were entered including the dredging and reclamation work, port access roads and bridge, gate complex, border control building and the main port itself. This saw the project receive 11 awards. Not to be outdone the Port of Felixstowe Third Rail Terminal received a Highly Commended Award.
