Trinity Hall achieves Fairtrade University status

Trinity Hall has achieved Fairtrade University status in acknowledgement of its commitment to supporting and using Fairtrade products.

Rachel Mortimer Holdsworth, Head of Conference and Catering Services at Trinity Hall, said: “Trinity Hall welcomes thousands of visitors through its doors each year, including our students and staff as well as a wide range of conference and events guests.  We are thrilled with the positive response we have had to our raising awareness of, and using, Fairtrade products.  We look forward to harnessing this enthusiasm from our College community with an array of special events, guest speakers and new Fairtrade products to sample in 2016.”

It is particularly fitting that Harriet Lamb CBE, a leading campaigner for Fairtrade, is among the notable alumni of Trinity Hall, as well as being an Honorary Fellow of the College.

Harriet Lamb, who is now CEO of peace-building charity, International Alert, said: “‘Congratulations to Trinity Hall on achieving Fairtrade University status. This has taken dedication and determination – mixed with plenty of inspiration – from everyone from the students to the chefs. It is entirely thanks to people working in their communities like this, ensuring more people can enjoy Fairtrade goodies such as tea, coffee and bananas, that today over 1.5 million farmers and workers can enjoy better conditions. Given my connections, I am especially thrilled to be raising a glass of Fairtrade wine to celebrate the achievement of Trinity Hall’.

There are now more than 170 Fairtrade Universities and Colleges in the UK, with many more working towards Fairtrade status.  For further details on this or the upcoming UK celebrations for Fairtrade Fortnight, 29 Feb-13 March 2016, visit the Fairtrade Foundation website:          http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/en
