The Communication Practice
The Communication Practice is a drama-based training company. We help organisations build workplaces where people belong, contribute and grow — by building the capability for the courageous, everyday conversations that make or break culture and engagement.
Why culture stalls — even when you measure it
The commercial case is settled: engaged people stay longer, work harder, and perform better. More and more organisations measure it carefully, through engagement surveys and accreditations. But measurement reveals the gap — it doesn't close it.
Culture is built, or eroded, in thousands of small moments: the feedback that does or doesn't get given, the concern raised or swallowed, the manager who steps in or stays silent. The organisations that thrive are the ones whose leaders have the courageous conversations rather than defer them — and too often, leaders defer. Not because they don't care, but because in the moment, when it's awkward and the stakes feel high, knowing what to say deserts them. That silence is often what your engagement data is really picking up.
What makes us different
We don't teach communication intellectually — we help people embody it. Through practice with professional actor-coaches, leaders and managers build the emotional muscle memory to stay composed under pressure, the confidence to have the courageous conversation rather than avoid it, and the understanding that getting it slightly wrong is survivable.
How we work
- Lived Experience Recordings — real, anonymised employee stories voiced by professional actors, building recognition and empathy.
- Forum Theatre — interactive scenarios where leaders test approaches, rewind, and try again in a psychologically safe space.
- Communication Coaching — one-to-one sessions with expert actor-coaches that build lasting capability.
Where it makes a difference
Wherever culture is won or lost in conversation: giving honest feedback, recognising good work, managing performance and change, navigating conflict, and building the inclusion and belonging that keep people. We also help organisations judge whether someone is genuinely ready to manage, before a costly promotion, because managers are the single biggest lever on engagement.
The bridge from insight to behaviour
If your engagement work tells you where culture needs to shift, we're the practical partner who helps your people actually shift it — turning survey findings and good intentions into how leaders actually behave, day to day.
