Today, Cambridge is a world-renown centre for cutting-edge innovation, but even before the Cambridge Phenomenon, Cambridgeshire had a long history of invention. Mary Burgess’s talk will explore this legacy, focusing on five themes: healthcare/biology; computing; transport; scientific instruments and agriculture. There should be something to interest everyone!

Location: The talk will take place in the Pye Building at Cambridge Museum of Technology.
Getting there: Entrance on the night is via the Museum’s Cheddars Lane gate.
There will be free light refreshments courtesy of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMECHE)
Tickets: available on the door for £5 a head, £3 for students. Members and volunteers at Cambridge Museum of Technology can attend for free. Advance tickets are also available on the Museum website.

Mary Burgess is the Local Studies Librarian at the Cambridgeshire Collection, the local studies department of Cambridgeshire Libraries and one of the most important local history resources available to us. She is a local historian, researcher, and author of three books on East Cambridge.
