Ever wanted to step into the shoes of a scientist, crack secret codes, or see a 3D printed bear skeleton up close? This summer, Abbey People is inviting families to a free day of discovery packed with hands-on science, technology and curiosity-led fun.
Taking place on Wednesday 19th August, 10:00am-2:30pm, at Cambridge United Football Ground, Eager Explorers is a free family science event designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and show children and young people that science can be exciting, accessible and for everyone.
From dressing up as a scientist and discovering the strange world of carnivorous plants, to trying your hand at codebreaking and Morse code, the event offers something for all ages. Families will also have the chance to explore real zoology specimens, get up close to fascinating science activities, and even watch robots battle it out in a two-metre square robotic football arena*.
A science event for all the family, the day is aimed at children and young people and offers a wide range of fun, hands-on activities to enjoy with parents and carers. For older young people, it is also an opportunity to discover the many careers in science and technology they may not have considered before.
Nicky Shepard, CEO of Abbey People, said: “We can’t quite believe this is our fourth Eager Explorers. Each year it gets bigger, more ambitious and even more fun.
For us, this event is about opening doors. We want children and young people in Abbey to feel inspired by the incredible science and technology on their doorstep and to see futures they might never have imagined for themselves. Sometimes all it takes is one exciting experience to spark a lifelong interest.”
Eager Explorers is part of Abbey People’s ‘Abbey Together’ programme with King’s Hedges Family Support Project, aimed at bringing local communities together through free, engaging events.

Who can attend:
• Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18.
• Young people over 14 can attend independently.
