Kate joins Birketts’ specialist charities team as a Legal Director, having previously held roles at international law firms and in-house at a national charity. With additional experience as a charity trustee and as the current Vice-Chair of the Charity Law Association, Kate brings a wealth of expertise. Her work spans the life-cycle of charities, from formation, governance and Charity Commission compliance, to commercial activities, trustee dispute resolution, and even to merger or dissolution.
On her arrival at the firm, Kate said: “I am very excited to be joining such an energetic team with a real passion for charity. The team has built a very strong reputation in the third sector and I am looking forward to being part of its future as we continue to strive to better opportunities for our clients, and indeed the sector as a whole.
“Cambridge is a stalwart of the third sector, not only through its ancient charitable institutions, but also because of both the palpable sense of community, as well as the infectious entrepreneurial spirit that this city fosters. I look forward to supporting such institutions, philanthropists and innovators.”
Liz Brownsell, Partner and Head of Charities at Birketts, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kate to Birketts. Her extensive experience, gained both in private practice and in-house within the charity sector, will further strengthen the specialist support we provide to charities, trustees and organisations working with charities.
“Kate’s appointment marks an important step in the continued growth of our team and brings dedicated charity law expertise to our Cambridge office. Her insight and practical understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the sector will be invaluable as we continue to support clients across East Anglia and beyond.”
