CBI welcomes government and operators deal for shared rural network

The UK's four largest mobile networks have agreed a deal with the Government to invest in new and existing phone masts to improve coverage in rural areas. The Shared Rural Network (SRN) will see EE, O2, Three and Vodafone work together to end poor mobile phone coverage.

Commenting on the news, CBI Regional Director for the East of England Richard Tunnicliffe said: “The CBI welcomes this industry-government agreement to eliminate not-spots across the UK, which in turn will unleash investment and boost productivity.

“This is another crucial step in making the UK match-fit for the digital revolution and is a fantastic example of government and industry working in partnership to deliver for people across the UK.

“Seamless mobile connectivity is the cornerstone of the digital economy, it supports flexible workers and encourages businesses to speed up their digital adoption.”
