A leading hospital charity has put out a final call for any runners – or would be runners – who would like to take part in this year’s TTP Cambridge Half Marathon, raising money for a pioneering new cancer research hospital in Cambridge.
Final sign up is January 26th with every runner taking part raising funds for the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital. The new specialist hospital for the East of England will bring world-leading research and clinical excellence together, to change the story of cancer, and improve the lives of cancer patients across the UK and beyond.
Built over seven floors, the new hospital will house three world-leading University of Cambridge research institutes focussing on early detection, integrated cancer medicine and precision breast cancer medicine to accelerate and bring new innovations to the bedside faster, detect cancer earlier and treat it more precisely.
This year’s TTP Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 8th March is considered to be one of the UK’s ‘bucket-list’ races, offering a scenic route through the historic streets of Cambridge and routing through the colleges of Cambridge University.
Runners who sign up to run for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) will need to pay a registration fee of £30 and commit to raising £350. This includes a free ACT running top and support and guidance from the ACT team.
ACT is the official hospital charity for Addenbrooke’s and funds cutting-edge equipment, specialist staff, extra comforts and vital research above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide and is raising money to help build both the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital and the Cambridge Children’s Hospital.
Last year saw the charity’s biggest fundraising total in the event yet – with a staggering £150,000 raised, with the charity’s Donna Lee-Willis, Head of Community Fundraising, describing the event as ‘really special to us and something we are very passionate about as it is on our doorstep.”
Many runners taking part in this year’s TTP Cambridge Half Marathon have very personal, moving stories for why they are taking part with some of these stories set to feature in the February episode of ACT’s Amazing People, which airs on Cambridge Radio on the fourth Sunday of every month at midday. The show will be uploaded onto the ACT website after it airs.
The TTP Cambridge Half Marathon starts at Jesus Green in the centre of Cambridge. It then takes runners to the outskirts of Cambridge along some of the busiest roads which will be closed on the day of the race. Runners then pass over the river, through Kings College, Queens College and past Corpus Christi College before entering the beautiful village of Grantchester. In the final leg, runners will be taken through the stunning grounds of Jesus College before finishing back at Jesus Green with an electric welcome from spectators at what is always a popular event in the city’s calendar.
