Founded in 1875, by brothers Robert and Ebenezer Peters, who were later joined by William Elworthy and Frank Moore, PEM has been a vital part of Cambridge’s story for a century and a half. Over the years, the firm has evolved, expanded, and innovated, serving generations of clients and earning a reputation for excellence, trust, and commitment, growing from modest beginnings into a thriving, modern practice.
The celebration was not only an opportunity to look back at PEM’s rich history, but also to reflect on the firm’s enduring impact and legacy within Cambridge, looking ahead to the bright future being shaped for clients, PEM’s people, and the wider community.
PEM has deepened its community impact through impressive initiatives such as the PEM Charitable Trust, supporting a range of Cambridge charities and causes with both fundraising and direct donations. To celebrate their 150th year, the Trust aims to donate 150 grants by the end of 2025, reflecting the firm’s ethos of giving back to the local community while allowing the giving to be meaningful and personal to their people.
“2025 is a very special year for PEM. We’re proud of our heritage but even more excited about what lies ahead,” said Warren Tilbury, Managing Partner. “Our journey has always been guided by the trust of our clients, and we are honoured to be part of their journey too.”
The beautiful surroundings of St John’s College saw the evening’s celebrations unfold with guests mingling with current and retired partners, many of whom returned to reconnect with one another and share stories from the firm’s long history.
John Gourd, CEO of Cambridge Network added, “What better way to celebrate a major anniversary than being in the grounds of St John’s College on a beautiful Summer’s evening. It was so good to meet not just the PEM team, past and present, but also a large number of friends from other Cambridge companies. Cambridge Network values our long-standing relationship with PEM and looks forward to building on it through continued collaboration in the years to come."
Special recognition was given to the vital role of people and values at PEM, a theme that Managing Partner, Warren Tilbury echoed in his speech on the evening. “We’re embracing innovation, investing in our dedicated and incredible people, and staying true to the values that have seen us through a century and a half. Here’s to the next chapter.”
