Investors in the Environment is an environmental accreditation scheme designed to help the business sector save money and reduce their impact on the environment. The annual iiE Awards celebrates green business best practice and innovation.
In this year alone, the region’s member businesses collectively saved:
- 5,856 tonnes of CO2e
- Equivalent to taking 253 cars off the road..
- …or cancelling 194 flights from London to New York (approx 670,000 miles not flown)!
“We’re so delighted by the amazing achievements of our member businesses,” explains iiE’s April Sotomayor. “The past year has seen rising momentum and public action on climate change, but often businesses feel at a loss to what they could do to best make a difference. iiE gives clarity and helps supports organisations in the best steps to take to become greener.”
Attendees at the event also heard from keynote speaker Anne Miller, one of the world’s most successful inventors, leader on organizational change, and founder of The Creativity Partnership.
Anne mentors organisations on issues relating to innovation, strategy, and change management. She has given numerous talks on sustainability, including through the prestigious TED talks. Before launching The Creativity Partnership, Anne was a non-executive board member for The Climate Coalition and British Antarctic Survey.
In addition to this, at the iiE Awards member businesses secured Bronze, Silver or the highest level of Green accreditation, plus they discovered who won further awards.
The iiE Awards 2019 was sponsored by Haven Power, one of the UK’s largest business electricity suppliers. Powering businesses towards a brighter, more sustainable future, the supplier works in partnership with Green Energy Switch, the profit-for-purpose energy management solution, to save you time, money and effort.
“We were delighted to be part of a truly inspiring event that was attended by businesses that are setting the benchmark for sustainability in the Eastern region,” explains Maxine Palmer, the Director of Green Energy Switch. “The event was a great success and very well attended, with an excellent keynote speech from Anne Miller on climate change and how we can all contribute to reducing carbon emissions. In partnership with Haven Power, we look forward to supporting local businesses to continue to reduce their expenditure and emissions, improve efficiency, and in some cases use renewable energy generation as an additional source of income.”
