Within those doors you'll find over 200 British real ales from over 100 breweries and 80 ciders and perries from near and far, along with the foreign bar, mead and wine. Cambridge CAMRA's cheese counter will be in its usual spot, with cheese from around Britain accompanied by pork pies, scotch eggs, olives, breads and more.
“We don't change much at the festival each year - people seem to like what we do,” explains Bert Kenward, Festival Organiser. “Last year we had a record breaking 41,000 people attend, and we’re hopeful the weather will hold up next week. However, even if it doesn’t, our massive marquees make sure that the beer is still available for all to enjoy.”
The theme this year will be the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the publication of John Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. The posters, promotion and limited edition beer glasses all follow this theme, and as always, are highly collectable.
As ever, the festival supports a charity every year. This year, we have chosen Blue Smile, who are based in Cambridge and work with children in the county who are struggling to overcome mental health and emotional well-being issues.
Rebecca Wood, Chief Executive of Blue Smile, said: “We are thrilled to have the chance to raise funds at this year’s Cambridge Beer Festival and would like to say a huge thank you to the Cambridge & District Campaign for Real Ale for giving Blue Smile this opportunity.
"Blue Smile is dedicated to providing expert arts-based therapy and mentoring in Cambridgeshire schools to help emotionally troubled youngsters between the ages of 3 to 13. There are thousands of children in the county struggling to cope with the impact of bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown and far more. As statutory services are limited, the demand for our help is increasing all the time. Every £1 raised for Blue Smile during the Cambridge Beer Festival will go towards the charity’s vital work to help children thrive, learn and live happier lives.”
