Abelon Systems’ Ian Smith (Managing Director) will present, using examples from case studies from a number of recent client projects to highlight some of the trade-offs and decisions which were made, and the impact they had on reducing overall cost and design timescales.
The Scottish Device Developers' Conference is a one-day event for engineers, designers and computer scientists working to develop intelligent systems and devices and will take place on the 5th June, at Uphall. It is intended that the Conference will enable developers to explore new tools and technologies, discover new suppliers and learn from industry experts.
"The integration of hardware components and subsystems from different vendors is often a challenge, particularly when trying to create a robust and reliable solution," said Ian Smith.
"In an increasingly commoditised electronics market there are often "Make or Buy" decisions to be made around key choices such as processor board or communications modules, and there are advantages and disadvantages to either strategy, the final design often including aspects of both. I will be talking about our approach to this issue with reference to a number of recent client projects."
Consisting of a vendor exhibition, a broad range of technical presentations and several half-day technical workshops, The Scottish Device Developers' Conference is expected to prove a worthwhile and productive day for those working in the field of embedded systems and mission critical computing.
This event is free to engineers, developers and technical managers, although there is a small charge for the half-day workshops.

Topics covered at the conference will include ‘device to cloud connectivity’, ‘using open source software for critical applications’, ‘advanced debugging techniques’ and ‘a guide to developing using the ARM Cortex-M’. Experts in their field will give the presentations and workshops.
German debug tool company Lauterbach, UK embedded systems training experts Feabhas and Italian industrial computer manufacturer Eurotech sponsor the conference. More than thirty other embedded systems tools and technology companies will be exhibiting and presenting at this event.
“There has been a lot of industry support for this Scottish event,” said Richard Blackburn. “There will be 15 high quality technical presentations to choose from, 4 half-day technical workshops and about 30 companies exhibiting and demonstrating new technology.”
Running alongside this event, there will also be a smaller conference called The Reliable Software Developers Conference. This is a one-day conference exploring the software tools and coding standards that help companies develop safety critical and highly reliable software. The afternoon will be given over to a workshop called “Getting to Grips with MISRA C:2012”. MISRA C is a coding standard that is increasingly being adopted by developers worldwide where safety and reliability has to be assured.
