The achievement recognises Allia’s commitment to environmental responsibility across its operations, particularly through its Future Business Centres in Cambridge and Peterborough which house impact-focused businesses and social enterprises. Since 2023, the organisation has implemented significant environmental improvements across five key areas: energy, water, waste management, and travel.
Major Environmental Improvements Delivered:
The Silver accreditation follows substantial capital investment and operational changes, including changing energy supplies from ‘brown energy’ to ‘green energy’, conducting comprehensive energy audits, and installing solar PV panels across sites. A complete LED lighting refurbishment has been completed across all Allia Future Business Centres alongside measures to reduce overall electrical consumption.
Water usage monitoring and improvement systems have been implemented, whilst a new comprehensive waste management policy has been rolled out to all tenants and staff. The organisation has also reduced business travel through more efficient planning and alternatives, with management vehicles transitioning to electric and hybrid models.
“It’s a pleasure to work alongside a business that truly recognises the importance of sustainability and continues to make real reductions to lower its organisational carbon footprint. Next step: Green Level!”
– Jason Murby – Facilities Manager at Allia Future Business Centres
“This is a great achievement as we further embed carbon savings and environmental due diligence into our operations. We are look forward to taking this further in the months ahead.”
– David Broach – Director at Allia Future Business Centres
Looking Ahead:
Allia will continue implementing improvements to further reduce carbon emissions and work towards the highest iiE accreditation level – ‘Green’ status – over the next 18 months.
The iiE scheme has been running for over 12 years and has helped hundreds of organisations across all sectors improve their environmental performance. As an accessible route to sustainability, it provides organisations with practical support to make real environmental impact whilst achieving recognition for their progress.
