Anglia Ruskin opens dedicated Clearing Centre

Anglia Ruskin University will open its Clearing Centre at 7.30am next Thursday, 15 August (A-Level results day) to help anyone looking to start a university course this September.

Applications to Anglia Ruskin have increased by 9.9% compared to the same time two years ago, and 2013 marks the fifth consecutive year that Anglia Ruskin has seen a rise in demand for places.

To accommodate this year’s predicted high demand for courses starting in September, Anglia Ruskin will be running a series of clearing events at its campuses in Chelmsford and Cambridge.

Admissions tutors will be available to talk face-to-face with visiting students, who will also be able to meet current students and take a campus tour.  A dedicated Clearing Hotline will also be in operation for students unable to visit in person.

Professor Alan Sibbald, Anglia Ruskin’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, said: “Clearing can prove to be a challenging time for some students who are yet to secure the course that is right for them or have decided to apply late in the applications cycle, but our Admissions team will be able to help people make the right decision based on the options open to them.”

Although primarily aimed at students who have just received their A-Level results, a significant number of mature students also apply to university through Clearing.

Approximately 40% of Anglia Ruskin’s Clearing applicants are mature students, including Matthew Wright who enrolled on the BA (Hons) Photography degree course on the Cambridge campus in 2011.

Matthew said: “As a mature student returning to studies after leaving employment in late summer, my decision to apply for the BA (Hons) Photography was quite late so I applied to Anglia Ruskin through Clearing.

“I imagined the process would be daunting.  However, much to my relief, I got straight through on the clearing phone hotline and spoke with the Head of the Art School who was very encouraging and suggested I get as much work together as possible and come in to see him at the first opportunity.  The whole process was painless, and it was great to have it all sorted out so quickly.”

Prospective students are encouraged to visit www.anglia.ac.uk/clearing to view the full list of courses available and then visit or phone the Clearing Centre, which will be open throughout August, using the phone number given next to each course.
