Another record 12 months on cards as Cooper Lomaz celebrates 25 years

Independent East Anglian recruitment company Cooper Lomaz is set to celebrate a quarter century of success with another record-breaking year in Cambridge. It expects to earn 30% of 2015’s £5.4m fees income from matching candidates to jobs in Cambridge alone.

Newly-released figures show Cooper Lomaz Recruitment, started by two East Anglian businesswomen during the 1990 recession, enjoyed a best-ever fees income of £2.7m in the first six months of 2015. That’s a 25% increase on the first half of 2014, which itself was a record year.

Cooper Lomaz, which has 18 consultants dedicated to meeting the skilled, professional and management personnel needs of Cambridge employers, has taken on 23 more staff this year, boosting its total staff level to 73 and expecting to top 80 by the end of the year.

Earlier this year a survey by the Sunday Times named Cooper Lomaz among the top 25 best small companies to work for in the country.

Founders Jane Lovell and Charlotte Cooper still own the company, with day-to-day responsibility for driving the Cooper Lomaz business resting on the shoulders of managing director Richard Mould.

“We are expecting a record-breaking year financially and we have more people working for the company than ever before,” said Mr Mould. “The economy is strong and our sector is very buoyant.”

Cooper Lomaz specialises in seven key areas – accountancy, engineering, food manufacturing, oil gas & renewable energy, IT, sales & marketing and supply chain. It also has an executive division which provides a bespoke service for board-level appointments.

Australian-born but East Anglia-raised, Mr Mould began his Cooper Lomaz career as a consultant in 2008. A business management graduate from the University of Surrey, he expanded the IT division – particularly in Cambridge – and quickly established himself as the company’s top performing consultant.

He was promoted through senior consultant, team leader and business manager to sales director in 2013, becoming managing director early this year.

“Cooper Lomaz hires only the best talent – and I’d love to see others following the same sort of path,” said Mr Mould.

In the past 18 months Cooper Lomaz has expanded beyond its traditional Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire heartland. Essex has proved an “incredible” success story over the past 18 months and Cooper Lomaz is currently replicating its business growth model in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
