Several Cambridge companies have been successful in winning one or more awards in the past and Cambridge Network would like to encourage more entries to reflect the calibre of enterprise in and around the city.
The Queen’s award for Enterprise rewards outstanding achievement in four areas:
- Innovation
- International trade
- Sustainable development
- Promoting opportunity through social mobility (new in 2017)
To apply your organisation must:
- be based in the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)
- file its Company Tax Returns with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
- be a self-contained enterprise that markets its own products or services and is under its own management
- have at least 2 full-time UK employees or part-time equivalents
- demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility
Your organisation can be business or non-profit. There are further eligibility criteria for each award which can be found on the Government website here

Cambridge Network members have been winners of Queen’s Awards over the years – here is a selection of the 2018 winners:
Specialist sensor and chip developer CambridgeIC won a second Queen’s Award for International Trade after continued strong performance which has seen international sales grow by a factor of five in four years.
Darktrace, the world’s leading AI company for cyber defence, was one of a select number of businesses to win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade in recognition of its outstanding growth in overseas sales.
Activinsights was recognised for its achievement in delivering lifestyle insights and behavioural data analysis for healthcare professionals and won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.
Endomagnetics, the surgical guidance company, received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. The Award recognised the company’s efforts in developing novel surgical tools for more accurate removal of breast cancer.
Featurespace, the leading multinational machine learning company for fraud prevention and risk management, was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.
GIS, the leading technology provider to OEMs and system builders in the inkjet industry worldwide, was awarded the Queen’s Award: Enterprise 2018 for International Trade, in recognition of its outstanding growth in overseas markets from 2015 to 2017.
Sensors company, Zettlex, won a second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2018. The award for international trade recognised strong export growth, with exports to 50 countries accounting for nearly 90% of the company’s sales.
