The Santander Breakthrough 50 in partnership with Smarta seeks to shine a light on the most inspiring businesses in the UK. We want to uncover those businesses that are transforming established industries, leading the entrepreneurial movement in the UK and inspiring others to grow into businesses that push our economy forward.
What is the Santander Breakthrough 50?
The Breakthrough 50 has been created to recognise the UK’s most rapidly expanding businesses that have grabbed a significant market share, are boasting growing revenues and have a clear vision to develop even more in the future. The winners will be the leading figures of the entrepreneurial movement in the UK, each with a unique blueprint for success and a story to inspire other entrepreneurs.
Winning companies will become a member of the Breakthrough 50 alumni and attend the awards ceremony with the SME advisory board, fellow Breakthrough 50 winners and other fast growing businesses.
This means each winning business will receive exclusive access to networking events with the UK’s top businesses and other Breakthrough 50 winners. The alumni network will launch at the Breakthrough 50 awards ceremony where businesses will have the opportunity to meet the other winners and the judges who chose them.

Our judges will be choosing a Breakthrough 50 Business of the Year. This winner will be the ultimate fast growth business with a blueprint for success. On top of becoming a member of the Breakthrough 50 alumni, the Overall Business of the Year will win a place on a once in a lifetime trade mission, in the past these have included missions to Brazil, Mexico and New York. On top of this the winning business will also have an intern from a top UK university join its team for three months – all paid for by Santander. To help this business create a master plan to expand further in the future, we will also provide one on one mentoring from a member of the Santander SME advisory board.
