Ashton KCJ’s good Will campaign benefits charity

East Anglian law firm, Ashton KCJ, is encouraging people to make 2015 the year they finally get round to making a Will and, by making a Will during Ashton KCJ’s Wills Week, they can benefit two local charities at the same time.

If you do not make a Will, you cannot specify who should receive your assets, nor who should look after your children. The most common reasons people give for not making a Will are either that they haven’t ‘got round to it’ or that they feel they haven’t got anything of value to leave behind.

Just under two thirds of adults do not have a current Will. This means that, in households where there are children, formal guardianship arrangements will not be in place and children may not be brought up by people chosen by the parents. If you are part of an unmarried couple, your partner will not automatically be entitled to anything on your death if you haven’t made a Will.

The week long Wills Week campaign will run from 9 - 13 February 2015 and will raise funds for two charities which have been nominated by the firm: Break, which provides services for vulnerable young people and families across East Anglia,  and the Arthur Rank Hospice, which provides palliative care for people who have a life-limiting illness.

Alison Budge, partner at Ashton KCJ said: “The implications of not making a Will are that the law will decide how your estate will be distributed and who should care for your dependents. Having a Will in place avoids the confusion and emotional strain which can be placed on loved ones when someone has not made their wishes known.”

"As well as emphasising the importance of making a Will, our Wills Week campaign will raise vital funds for two worthwhile causes, making a lasting difference to the lives of local people.”

Go to: www.ashtonkcj.co.uk/willsweek for more information or call: 0800 587 0093. For each Will prepared during Wills Week, Ashton KCJ will donate £100 to go equally between the two charities. The scheme is running in each of the firm’s six offices.
