Back cool idea to help patients sleep!

To some, the prolonged soaring temperatures of late are a welcome change from the usual damp British summer weather. However, for others - particularly those in hospital - it can be uncomfortable.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust uses techniques including traditional blade fans to help keep patients cool. They help immensely, but some patients find them disturbing.

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) is appealing for the public’s support in purchasing bladeless fans. These will allow patients to get a good night’s sleep as they are less noisy. They can also be kept clean more easily.

Helen Balsdon, Associate Director of Nursing at Addenbrooke’s, said: “The recent spell of hot weather has meant many of us are struggling with warm nights and keeping cool. For our patients this can be uncomfortable, particularly for less-mobile and older people. Patient comfort is so important to us here at Addenbrooke’s and new fans such as these would really help patients to feel cooler and sleep better in the warmer areas of the hospital this summer. We’re really grateful for any help the public can give to keep our patients cool.”
